Congratulations to Ruth Guertz on winning the YMCA Peace Award 2009. Ruth is a member of Make Poverty History and helped organize these great Stand Up events this year. Ruth's outstanding achievements as the founder of the Social Service Worker Program and her career as a Professor at Lambton College have made her a role model for her family, students and staff who say she is PEACE itself. She has profoundly impacted my life more than she knows through her mentoring my two daughters while I was stricken with MS. Ruth you deserve this award! Blessings, Wendy

Peace?...It's there...

What is peace?
Where is peace?
It's there...
Peace is silent, peace is in silence.
Peace is wholeness, oneness, its happiness.
Peace is calm - it's serenity.
It should be well known and spread throughout our society
But is it?
...no

p.e.a.c.e.
will always be a part of me
a piece of peace, peace is you
being at ease, so...
lean back, release & relax
inhale...relief
Exhale - release, unwanted tension, your anger & stress, the frown on your face, wipe it away & put on your best...smile

What is peace?
I'ts people uniting.
More caring, less fighting
I'm a peacekeeper...I'd like to get deeper
Into myself - like. Inner peace
You know...
We all must govern this?...this?
Emotion? this feeling? It's a step to take
Something to make
Something to keep
It's Something to Create
It's the opposite of hate
What is hate?
It's chaos, destruction, madness, insanity...if you will

Peace is to love what your doing
Love what you know
Love who you are
And showing...
Peace IS knowing
Peace is owning
It's sharing - a selfless act
Although, as you get older
It grows farther (hold on to it)
It gets harder
Peace is born when we are
With us/within us
What...is peace?

Peace is introduction, people introducing people.
Peace is when time doesn't matter as its passing you by
Peace is freedom from disturbance, from poverty, from anguish, grief, sorrow.
It's an escape
Peace is agreeing with fate
That's what peace is to me...anyway

What is peace to you?

JUNE 8 OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE MAKE POVERTY HISTORY SARNIA LAMBTON GROUP

A great meeting on Sunday, June 8, left us all encouraged and motivated to start making a difference today. Great hope was given to all of us from Dennis Howlett and Alejandro Gomez from Make Poverty History Canada that we can actually see the goals the campaign being reached in our own country and at the G8 Summit meetings of leaders from all over the world. Dennis actually told us that substantial poverty reduction is on the way in our province of Ontario as soon as this year thanks to the work of people like us!

Our group focus will be on getting out into the community with our banner and white bands, to let politicians and media know we are here and what we stand for and preparing for the next election.

JOIN WITH US AND HELP MAKE POVERTY HISTORY!
